Frank Veith, MD Awarded the Society for Vascular Surgery's Highest Honor: The Lifetime Achievement Award

Individuals selected for this honor are recognized for outstanding and sustained contributions made to the profession and to SVS, and for exemplary professional practice and leadership.

"SVS is very proud to present Dr. Veith with our most prestigious award," said, Robert Zwolak, current President, SVS. "Requirements considered in evaluating nominees for the Lifetime Achievement Award include significant contributions to SVS and other vascular societies including leadership that has influenced standards and professional practice demonstrated by nominees who have been president or held another major leadership position in a regional or national vascular specialty society, These awardees have made significant contributions to vascular education; vascular basic science or clinical research; service as an active and productive clinical surgeon; special contributions to the field; publications; and any other honors received or any extramural activities that further the goals of SVS and the profession."

Dr. Veith is Professor of Surgery at New York University Medical Center and Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. He serves as the William J. von Liebig Chair in Vascular Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Foundation and is the Clinical Visiting Professor, Department of Surgery, F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine, Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences.

"What I have been able to accomplish is due largely to the work and support of others including my wife, Carol, and my non-physician associates, Jackie, Julie, and Jamie, and my trainees and partners over the years," Dr. Veith said at the awards ceremony. "I was fortunate to work with these colleagues, and they all taught and enriched me. Long after my papers, books, and talks will be forgotten, these men and women will be well-known in vascular surgery, and they are my lasting legacy."

Dr. Veith is the Chairman and founded the Veith Symposium of the annual event that provides vascular surgeons and other vascular specialists with the most current information about new developments in the clinical practice and relevant research. The symposium is in its 37nd year and the largest and most well-attended meeting of it's kind.

Dr. Veith has served on 89 committee and boards. His participation includes chairmanships of national and regional organizations, and editorial activities for major journals. He has been President and Vice-President of The New York Society for Cardiovascular Surgery, President of the New York Regional Vascular Society, President of the Carolina Vascular Society, President-elect and President of SVS, and First Vice-president of the International Society for Carotid Artery Therapy.

Dr. Veith is Editor-in-chief of VASCULAR, Senior Editor of EndoCardiovascular Multimedia Magazine, and serves on the editorial boards of the Journal for Vascular Surgery®, Annals of Vascular Surgery, Persepectives in Vascular Surgery and Vascular Surgery Outlook, Vascular Surgery Outlook, International Vascular Surgery, The Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery, Gefasschirurgie, and The William J. von Liebig Consensus Conference.

During his career, he received 20 major honors. Dr. Veith is a respected presenter and lecturer with hundreds of presentations on his CV.
